North Carolina Dance Theatre is in with the new and out with the old--name, that is. As of this Sunday, April 27, NCDT will be renamed Charlotte Ballet. The news was announced last night during the company's opening performance of Othello. No need for alarm, however. Artistic director Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux insists that this is a change in name only. "This transformation is not about changing what we do," he says in a statement. "It's about defining it." The company hopes to develop a stronger brand identity to reflect its mission and elevate its core values.
Naturally, the school name and website URL will be changing, too. North Carolina Dance Theatre School of Dance is now Charlotte Ballet Academy, while charlotteballet.org will go live April 27 (ncdance.org will remain running and up-to-date during the transition).
