Apply to Show Your Choreography at Jacob's Pillow

October 5, 2016

It may only be fall, but that doesn’t mean it’s too early to set your choreographic sights on summertime. If you’ve ever dreamed of presenting your work at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, now’s the time to submit your materials. Applications for their annual Inside/Out performance series are currently open through October 31. Aside from the undeniable cachet of showing your choreography at the Pillow, here are four more reasons to apply:

Anything goes.
Whether you’re a ballerina, a hoofer, a contemporary kid or a hip-hopper, all styles are welcome to apply. And it’s okay if you’re just starting out. Both new and established groups have been a part of the festival.

You’ll be in good company.
The Pillow has presented countless dance artists, and the Inside/Out series is no exception. Last year’s participants included Caleb Teicher & Dancers, Danielle Agami’s Ate9 dANCEcOMPANY, the traditional Indian dance of Preeti Vasudevan & Thresh Performing Arts, a ballet collective of Christopher Ruud & The Stars of Ballet West, an Urban Bush Women lecture demonstration and many more. (You may know Teicher and Agami as 2015 25 to Watchers, and Teicher is a nominee for Best Emerging Choreographer in Dance Magazine‘s 2016 Readers Choice Awards!)

Have you ever seen a more breathtaking performance space?
Dancing outdoors surrounded by lush trees and the Berkshire mountains beats the stale air of a studio any day. Ah…

You’ll get major exposure.
In 2015, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival had more than 108,000 visitor experiences. That includes attendance to main-stage shows, classes, talks, tours, and of course, Inside/Out. Plus, Inside/Out performances are free and open to the public, so your work will be seen by locals, budding ballerinas and arts aficionados alike.
