Celebrate Summer with FREE Outdoor Dance in NYC
If blue skies, sunshine and warm temps make you wanna do a happy dance, we’re all for it! And, apparently, groups like Stephen Petronio Company, Seán Curran Company and Philadanco feel the same way. Why? They’re just a few of the companies performing at the outdoor dance festivals popping up all over New York City this summer. Mark your calendars for these free (yes, free!) events. Then grab a picnic blanket and soak up the arts and the sun.

Hudson River Dance Festival: Enjoy an evening with three diverse modern companies on the same stage: Stephen Petronio Company, Lar Lubovitch Dance Company and Urban Bush Women. June 15–16.
River to River Festival: The programming features a mix of dance, music, visual art and new media. Catch performances from artists as varied as slow-motion master Eiko and the hip-hop infused Ephrat Asherie Dance. June 16–26.
Bryant Park Presents Modern Dance: Skip happy hour and wind down your week with a cocktail of three modern dance companies each Friday. Groups on the lineup include Earl Mosley’s Diversity of Dance, Seán Curran Company and Adam Barruch / Anatomiae Occultii. June 17, June 24, July 1, July 8.
Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival: Right now, Philadanco and Camille A. Brown & Dancers are the only dance shows that have been announced. Philadanco will be performing work by the likes of Ray Mercer, Ronald K. Brown and Christopher Huggins, and Brown’s troupe will present her BLACK GIRL: Linguistic Play. June 25 & July 21.
SummerStage: View dance in 16 of NYC’s most iconic parks. For one, how about heading to Central Park to see work by Jeremy McQueen paired with a screening of Misty Copeland‘s documentary A Ballerina’s Tale? June 18–August 10.
Lincoln Center Out of Doors: Get casual at one of the city’s most revered cultural hubs. Join a giant dance party in the square or see shows by groups like Dance Theatre of Harlem or tap legend Maurice Hines. July 20–August 7.
