Sutton Foster to Return to (Off) Broadway in Sweet Charity

Our favorite tap-dancing, high-belting triple threat is returning to the stage, in the kind of show-stopping role she was made for. Sutton Foster, who has starred on TV Land’s Younger for the past year, will play the title role in Sweet Charity at the Off-Broadway New Group this fall.

The revival—staged in honor of the show’s 50th anniversary—will be choreographed by Joshua Bergasse. Bergasse has been landing shows left and right these days, including the Broadway production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, slated for spring 2017.  With On the Town, his biggest hit thus far, he showed that he could reinvent classic choreography (in this case Jerome Robbins’) in an exciting way. But does he have the chops to take on such an iconic Fosse show?

What’s for sure is that Foster will shine as the unlucky dance-hall hostess, Charity Hope Valentine (she’s already had some practice in the role), and that this show has the talent to be a strong contender for a Broadway transfer. Personally, I can’t wait to see Foster perform “I’m A Brass Band,” and bring the house down.
