We’re not far along, but 2016 is already off to a busy start. Here’s what you should read to catch up.

1. Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival named
Pamela Tatge its new executive director.
And she has quite a background to boot
. Plus, check out the lineup for the festival’s 2016 season—its last under Ella Baff, who has directed it for 17 years.
2. Changes are happening at American Ballet Theatre.
The company has finally replaced former executive director Rachel Moore, who left for the Music Center in Los Angeles. (Yet another New York arts person who has moved to L.A.) Meanwhile, Cynthia Harvey will take over as artistic director of its Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School.
3. Mats Ek is retiring.
Or is he? The choreographer says the press is dramatizing his departure. (Though it still sounds like a retirement to me—at the very least, a “break” that may never end.)
4. David Bowie passed away.

5. American Dance Institute is moving to Catskill, NY.
It will be a huge boost
for the dance scene growing just outside of New York City. But it will also be a huge loss for the D.C. area.
6. Jawole Willa Jo Zollar and Stephen Petronio are each starting their own choreographic program.
They differ in approach, though
. Zollar’s will be a floating, concept-based program, while Petronio is looking to create a physical center for dance.
7. Akram Khan is in a bit of a controversy.
He told a UK site
that we shouldn’t increase the number of female choreographers “for the sake of it.”
