It’s been one heck of a year for Misty Copeland. Although Dance Magazine has been following her career for several years now (check out her cover story from December 2010 here), these past few months have been nothing but forward momentum for Copeland. Now, she’s caught Barbara Walters’ eye as one of the honorees for the annual TV special “Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2015.”

Considering the year she’s had, the announcement doesn’t come as a surprise. In June, her long-awaited promotion to principal at American Ballet Theatre catapulted her to household-name fame as the first African American female to reach the highest rank at the company. Then, she joined the cast of Broadway’s On the Town as Ivy Smith, her documentary A Ballerina’s Tale was released in theaters, and she made the rounds on late-night talk shows with Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel.

During the broadcast tomorrow, Thursday, December 17, at 9:30 pm ET on ABC, Walters will reveal her pick for the most fascinating person of the year. Copeland is up against some serious contenders, including comedians Amy Schumer and Tracy Morgan, actor Bradley Cooper, presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, UFC fighter Ronda Rousey and fashion designer Donna Karan.

While we may be a bit partial, wouldn’t it be amazing if a dancer took home the top honor? Catch a teaser video for the broadcast below.
