Dava Huesca’s BLUSH

To continue our recent celebration of 25 to Watch Live, this week we’re featuring three dance films from artists featured in 2025’s “25 to Watch” in a mini Friday Film Break Festival. On BLUSH, directed and choreographed by Dava Huesca and danced by Charrie Burke, Huesca says:

“As a Black woman I am consistently navigating a world that misreads confidence as aggression and rejects my power as lacking grace. My choreographic work challenges these harmful stereotypes by honoring the nuanced emotional and physical range of Black femininity.

“Through grounded contemporary floorwork and influences from ballroom culture, I explore softness as strength and vulnerability as defiance. I create from a place of reclamation—redefining what it means to be delicate, assertive, and beautifully whole.”
